| The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program is named in honor of Louis Stokes (born Feb. 23, 1925), a retired U.S. Congressman (Dem – Ohio). The program is designed to increase the quality and quantity of students receiving baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and, subsequently, entering graduate schools to earn doctoral degrees in STEM fields. funds are provided by the National Science Foundation and program goals are accomplished through formation of alliances. The Louis Stokes Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-LAMP) Program is part of the national alliance. LS-LAMP is led by Southern University A&M College with input and advice of an array of collaborating public and private entities that include the LS-LAMP Governing Board (chaired by the Commissioner of Higher Education). Funds for LS-LAMP are provided, in part, by the Louisiana Board of Regents. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette-Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (UL LAMP) Program is part of the state and national programs. |
